Both the manifolds (orig and replacement) are made of a softer metal than I would have expected. If you live in a cold weather area make sure the washer is totally drained (blow it out) or you could get a crack along the screw line. If I were going to do it again I would order the total manifold with all the internal components installed. I spent a lot of time pulling, prying and cutting the parts out of the old one. Chief amongst those has been cutting holes in old lath and horse hair plaster walls. With the narrow point of the included blade, I can saw holes with only a couple of small pre-drilled pilot holes and minimize the damaging to the surrounding plaster.</p> <p>What makes the saw excel, however, is the versatility. Changing the blade is simple, quick, and never compromises the sturdy feel. I purchased this saw with the blade kit (Milwaukee 49-22-1129 12-Piece Ultimate Demolition Sawzall Blade Set) and I have used it to make easy and controlled cuts through, wood, metal, plaster, dry wall, rigid foam, etc. I have also since purchased the Milwaukee Sawzall which can utilize the same variety of blades, increasing the value.</p> <p>The other day after a snow storm, I had to perform some emergency pruning on a tree with branches leaning against my neighbors house and blocking the drive way. I remembered the threads on the end of this job saw and attached it to an old paint roller handle. Changed the blade to a long wood cutting blade, and was able to easily prune the small/medium sized branches in the tree. Perfect example of this tool’s ease of use and versatility. long time..<br />the guys i work with also liked it so much the bought it when they seen what it can do i have shown them side by side light comparison with a stinger led c-4 and a strion led c-4 and there was no diffrence to me and the other 3 engineers so now they all have the Strion light with them also a good selling point it is you read the warrenty it states that if you manage to breake the light they will fix it no questions asked and they mean it i droped my led stinger off a 30 foot platform it hit the ground the first word out of my boss was well “there goes a 0.00 duckeys” well the light did still work for about a week after then it stoped i called Streamlight told them what happen all they told me was just send it to us a week later had it back and they repaired as they said size-for-convenience. It’s a largish pocketknife that’s really a multitool.</p> <p>Its main disadvantages are common to multitools: the screwdrivers aren’t as good as a round handle with a round shaft on center to the blade. But they aren’t bad, and by folding the center handle joint to ninety degrees, you can get a convenient handle for turning a stiff screw. There’s no plastic handle to provide electrical insulation. And the plier grips aren’t smooth to the palm.</p> <p>The three screwdivers cover a wide range of sizes well. The corkscrew is large enough to work reasonably well and the combination bottle opener/can opener/corkscrew assist does its job. (I also use that three-way tool for cutting plastic tape on boxes; it will do the job without the risk of cutting what’s underneath.) The scissors are ideal for trimming a torn nail, a problem that has become more frequent with age. The saw is a coarse instrument, but it will work when you need it. The plier jaws grip well and the two wire cutter regions remain tightly aligned for clean shearing. The lanyard rings folds in so it won’t catch on anything when it’s not needed.</p> <p>One minor gripe: the colored finish won’t stand up to years of bouncing around in a pocket with keys, coins, etc. It hasn’t scraped away altogether, but the color is scraped off around the edge.</p> <p>This is my “pocketknife” of choice. As a piece of useful design, it’s a very nice achievement. I hold Gerber in high regard and the price here is excellent, so I ordered one. Amazon shipped it long before they promised and it arrived quickly.</p> <p>I’m very happy with the LMF II. The steel is the same excellent 420HC Stainless as my beloved Gerber Mark II and the LMF II arrived shaving sharp. Fit and finish is typical Gerber – excellent! The handle fits my medium-sized hand securely and comfortably, and its soft coating keeps it tight in your hand in wet conditions. The “jimping” on the handle rise at the hilt provides a useful thumb rest to leverage while cutting. The knife’s a bit heavy, but the balance is great and the build sturdy. The point at the bottom of the grip would make short work of a Plexiglas canopy or window.</p> <p>The sheath setup is obviously designed for MOLLE gear, but it has a variety of attachment means. I found the leg strap too tight, but it does have a stretch section. The straps also have 6 rubberized thread lines that run lengthwise in two sets of three stitch lines each. These nicely keep the straps from sliding when in use, especially for calf-carry. The built-in sharpener works and will be handy in the field. The quick-release works great, making the two handle restraints almost unnecessary.</p> <p>Speaking of the handle restraints, the bottom one seems too short to go around the handle near the bottom of the palm swell. Contrary to what others have said here, it DOES stretch. Simply push the knife into the sheath almost to the hilt, but stop short so that the offending restraint will snap closed in the narrow area between the hilt and the palm swell. Once snapped, push the knife the rest of the way into the sheath while working the closed restraint up the palm swell. Leave it sit overnight. That’s it! After that, the restraint will be tight but will snap normally.</p> <p>Overall, this is a great knife with excellent steel that really holds an edge. It upholds Gerber’s reputation for high quality cutlery and should last a lifetime. I’d go with a different sheath myself, but this one has enough attachment options to work OK. If you use it on MOLLE gear, you’ll be delighted with the sheath’s options. </p> <p>I didn’t think that I’d see this day, but the LMF II has replaced my beloved Mark II as my primary field knife. </p>
